Technology is changing the way employers are conducting interviews. Skype interviews are becoming more prevalent, they help employers save time and money. Etiquette surrounding a Skype interview is different from in person and phone interviews, but practicing your Skype interview can land you your next dream job!
1. Be Prepared. Make sure your surroundings are simple and there are no distractions.
2. Have Notes. Having notes and your resume in front of you can help keep you on track.
3. Dress for Success. Treat your Skype interview just like an in person interview.
4. Address Tech Issues. Make sure you address any technology issues right away. If you cannot hear properly you may miss important information.
5. Practice. Practice your interview with a friend so you can be prepared for the real thing.
6. Look at the Camera. Looking at the camera will help with eye contact.
7. Close Other Programs. Close any other open programs that may be running on your computer.
8. Don’t Get Distracted. Your own image shows up on the screen, if you get distracted by it you may want to cover it up.
9. Stay Present. With the interview not being in person, make sure you are actively listening.
10. Test the Lighting. Make sure your lighting is not directly behind you or in front of you. Having lights on both sides of you work best.
