How to market your skills
Jan 16, 2014
Have you ever thought about what you need to do to stand out in this economy and how you should market your skills? If so, these are a few tips I share with applicants through my work as a recruiter with HireLevel.
• Research and monitor career trends in your field. Keep up to date on what is hot and happening in the field. Research presentations, newsletters, and blogs to find these trends. If it is a specific company you are trying to gain employment with; review and keep up to date with their social media platforms.
• Choose a career specialty. Focus your career plan on what your greatest strength or niche specialty is and go after that. Continue your education or take online courses to fine tune these skills to make yourself more marketable in this specific field. • Showcasing your career knowledge will help grow and expand your network. Get online and join career discussions on LinkedIn and Twitter, for example. Lend your knowledge in the industry by asking questions or providing answers to questions that prove your expertise in your field. This could in turn grow your network and help build your referral base when it comes to searching for a new job.
• Learn how to market yourself. Does your LinkedIn profile use keywords specific to your industry? Are you prepared to answer the question, “Why should I hire you?” Make sure your online presence is professional and tells a compelling story about your experience and how you can be successful in the industry.
