I wanted to be a nurse since I was five years old. The thought of wearing scrubs, bandaging the sick, and getting to go home knowing I made a difference in someone’s life that day was always a thrill to me. What could I do better than anyone else? Find a cure for cancer? Help end an epidemic for some strand of disease scientists had been working on for thousands of years? I was five; I knew there was someone out there I could help have a better life. Now, I will give my own little caveat: I can’t stand the smell of blood and I panic when thinking about life or death situations. Great nurse, right? On the day I signed up for our local nursing program, the school was having a blood drive and I almost got sick (Insert “Here’s your sign” quote here). I didn’t let that stop me. Despite my own mother’s concern for my future patient’s well-being, I signed up that day to become the greatest nurse there ever was.
As you probably guessed, I changed majors… twice. I ended up seeing a guidance counselor that introduced me to Human Resources. I had no idea what it entailed, other than it’s usually not good if you get pulled into one of their offices. This ended up being the piece of the puzzle I was missing. I was given an opportunity to do what I do best: make a difference in someone’s life other than my own.
I have been lucky, very lucky, to have the ability to make a difference through my career at HireLevel. It’s more than just placing you because we have a need, we know it needs to be a fit for you and our clients, as well. We are trained to make sure that every person has the right seat on the bus. It’s the personal relationship we build to create a team together with our applicants and employees. Our clients know if we are sending someone, it’s a quality candidate because of our process.
I don’t get to wear scrubs to work or bandage the broken, but I do get to make a difference. Our team makes a difference every day. Every time our candidates are placed, we helped someone start anew. We helped them feed their kids, keep the electricity going, and led them on a new career path. It’s a small step to ending that ‘epidemic’ I wanted to cure when I was little, but the journey has been worth it.
