Evaluating the Employer when Currently Employed
Dec 26, 2013
When seeking a new career opportunity while currently working, it is crucial for a person to carefully evaluate the employer to help ensure that the new opportunity will help their career growth. An applicant’s evaluation of an employer can prove to be just as important as the employer’s interview of an applicant.
There are a couple crucial aspects that need to be evaluated when a person is considering changing positions. One of the first factors that needs to be assessed is how you will actually fit in to the new position versus the position you are currently in and whether that aligns with your personal goals or not. For example, are you wanting to switch jobs for a pay raise, to gain more knowledge or work on some personal attributes? If the position you are currently in only utilizes your strengths and you are seeking a challenge and wanting to strengthen your weaknesses, a new position that does just that may be appealing.
The future of the company is also a very important factor that needs to be assessed. Is it an up-and-coming company with an unknown future? Or an established company with potential growth opportunity? Looking at the company’s stocks and financial records (if available) would be a good way to go about obtaining this information in addition to the internet.
