A Year of Productivity- Resolutions for the New Year
Jan 5, 2016
We’re now in the first week of 2016, and it’s safe to say most of us have not failed our New Year’s Resolution… yet. How can you ensure that you’ll follow through the entire year? Here are some helpful tips to make this the most productive year to date.
Be Specific– Telling yourself to “eat healthier” or “get the promotion at work” is not enough, you need to be specific about how you’re going to accomplish your resolution. Make a game plan that sets very clear boundaries for your goal. Instead of “eating healthier” maybe set a goal to cook at home 4 nights a week and only eat out to lunch once a week.
Get Visual– Write it out on a poster board, put a note on your mirror that you’ll see every morning, or even make it the background of your laptop. Making your goals visible on a daily basis will not only remind you to keep up the good work, but it also allows you to track your progress.
Break It Down- Instead of one large goal, break it down into smaller goals that you can accomplish every quarter or every month. This way if you fail a small goal, the entire resolution won’t fly out the window. It will also allow you to celebrate small victories throughout the year.
Stay Accountable– Tell everyone! The more people you tell, the more you’ll feel like you need to accomplish your goal so as not to disappoint other people. You might also find that people will ask you about your resolution throughout the year, which is one more way to keep it at the top of your mind.
Resolutions are not meant to be easy, they are meant to push you to better yourself throughout the year. Do not forget that failures are a part of the challenge, and a slip up does not mean you should give up the entire goal. Enjoy the process and cheers to a productive 2016!
