What Employee Success Means for Your Organization
Jul 20, 2015
What does employee success mean for your organization and when does it start? Most organizations would consider employee success as high performance however; employee success actually begins during the recruiting process. Employee success is an ongoing experience starting with the recruiting process and follows through until the moment the employee leaves.
Recruiting requires patience. Employers must focus on finding the best fit for their organization by developing accurate job descriptions and advertising those jobs on a consistent basis. Instead of posting the positions on generic job boards, try advertising the position with skill specific groups on LinkedIn, or skill specific job boards. Once quality applicants have been recruited, the interview process begins. Interviews must be consistent with all applicants. Consistent interview questions determine the cultural fit and make it easier to determine which applicants stand out the most. The interview process can also be used to showcase the organizational culture and why they should want to work for the organization. Make the applicants leave the interview with the thought of “What a great place to work!”
After recruitment and selection, one of the most important ways that organizations can improve employee success is through the onboarding process. Onboarding is more than just the required paperwork such as the I-9, W-4, and new hire reporting. It includes the process of helping the new hire adjust to social and performance aspects of their new position quickly and smoothly. This can be done by training and roundtable discussions, on the job learning, and individual mentoring and HR support.
Onboarding is always an educational process. However, after that initial onboarding period, employees have a desire for more educational opportunities. This is a great investment in employees because it not only increases employee retention, but it also increases employee productivity. Continuing education in the workplace can be done with inter-office trainings, certifications and courses, or even assistance with tuition at a college or university.
Employee mentorship is also an important factor of employee success. Employee mentor programs provide an opportunity for organizations to nourish and cultivate potential talent as it emerges and develops in the organization. The mentoring process also offers the employee the opportunity to establish a supportive relationship other than with an immediate supervisor, within which they can observe successful behaviors and test their own developing ideas of effective behaviors. There are a lot of Trends Driving Employee Development that have been a popular option over the years, you just have to find the right fit for your organization.
We all know that not all employees stay at their organization forever. An employee departing an organization is always challenging, which is why it’s so important to focus on their success from the moment that job opening is established, and continues until their final days of employment.
