HireLevel, a full-service Human Capital Management firm has recently announced their 2ndChance initiative to improve the employability of people with criminal records by working with employers and community partners to reduce risk and ensure candidates are integrating smoothly into the workforce.
The HireLevel 2ndChance includes their online pledge through the Society for Human Resource Management online toolkit for businesses.
“With employment rates hitting historic lows and employers fighting to find talent, we must be willing to change the way we choose to hire; change the way we choose to train; and change the way we choose to retain, “said Teresa Katubig, President & CEO of HireLevel.” “As a business owner, giving these candidates an opportunity is a great thing to do for the community and will help reduce recidivism and fill your open positions faster.”
HireLevel strategically hires re-entry individuals to create a competitive advantage and mitigate risk. Through diversity recruiting you have access to talent outside your normal talent pools. These candidates include all re-entry individuals (Vets, Homeless, w/disability, previously incarcerated, etc.) We are not talking about just demographic diversity but also differing work experience, education status, marital status, socioeconomic status, life experiences, background, and upbringing. We are talking about reducing barriers to employment and giving people a 2nd chance to a career path
Research from SHRM found more than 82% of hiring managers polled in the US believe workers with a criminal history are hires that are equal to or more effective than hires without a criminal history.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 75% of individuals released from prison are still unemployed 1 year after release. What does this mean to us as employers? That there is an untapped pool of talent as skilled or more skilled than the candidates we are already hiring without second guessing our decision.
“HireLevel’s 2ndChance initiative is the exact type of solution we are hoping to see in the community,” said Samantha Stangl, Program Manager for The Clark-Fox Family Foundation. “People returning home have very little chance of succeeding without access to resources and means to support themselves through gainful employment.” “We are encouraged and excited about this program and hope other business leaders in the community follow suit.”
On Tuesday, March 26th at 9:30 AM CST HireLevel’s President & CEO, Teresa Katubig, joined our St. Louis market Community Partners for a live panel discussion on the state of the workforce in diversity recruiting, how to retain key talent, and about how you can integrate the HireLevel 2ndChance initiative into your workforce.
