My Internship – Not what I expected…
Sep 23, 2016
When I started my internship at HireLevel nerves set in. After all, this internship was my first job in a professional setting. Excitement was an understatement as I transitioned from student to Data Analyst Intern. When it comes to learning new systems and programs, I think it is safe to say, we all doubt our ability to learn as we dive in on the first day of a new job. Of course, I was no exception, but I soon realized my worry was misplaced. I was excited again, but it was not smooth sailing from here! By week one, I realized my internship at HireLevel would be an experience like no other. Instead of working on one specific project or spending my days eye- locked on endless spreads of data, I have been a part of several aspects of the company from working directly with candidates to fixing database issues.
As an intern for HireLevel, I have experienced many of the aspects of the company such as helping resolve database issues, assisting with the prescreening process for our candidates, and creating reports for our clients. Being able to work with the different processes behind the business has allowed me to understand what HireLevel really does, the role data plays in this company, and how important analyzing data for this company is. I will be starting my third year as a business major in college, so being able to not only see but also to actively work for a growing company is something that I have really enjoyed.
Because of my internship, I am able to see how every single position plays an integral role in the success of the company. Business school explains how the integration of all processes is required for running a business, however, to learn how to keep the processes running you must be an active part of the business. My short amount of time with HireLevel has ingrained in me some very important lessons about business. I learn new things daily that will help better prepare me for my career and for my future. Internships are a melting pot for untapped ideas, new experiences, and hidden information that school can only try to prepare you for utilizing.
I am excited to continue to work for HireLevel, and to see where this opportunity will lead me. Although my internship turned out to be nothing I expected, I could not be happier with the outcome. My last piece of advice: Actively seek out internships, just as you actively seek to pass your classes and finish school!
